Prairie-Wildflower Hikes

Tandy Hills is known as The Best Place to See Wildflowers in North Texas and 2013 is shaping up to be awesome. Walking tours organized by the Google of Wildflowers, Suzanne Tuttle, of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge and led by Master Naturalist volunteers will entertain and surprise you.

Prairie Keepers hikes and nature crafts at Prairie Fest 2013 from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm.

Three Free Prairie Keepers Hikes

Guided hikes leave on the half hour
First hike 11:30 am. Last hike 3:30 pm.


for ages 3-6
Discover the prairie's unique textures with an Earthwalk guide. This 30-minute activity from the Institute for Earth Education follows easily accessed trails. One version of this activity is designed to accommodate wheelchairs.

The Lost Letters Trail

for ages 7-10
Explore the hills with two Tandy Hills trail guides on adventures for groups of 10 hikers. Bring a water bottle and hiking shoes for this 45-minute hike. Designed for upper elementary age students and families, you'll explore a trail with steep slopes and creek crossings. Children leave with a handcrafted bookmark.

The Solar System Trail

A self paced tour through a scale model of the solar system for space travelers of all ages.
Discover your place in space. Play the Solar System Passport Game

Space travel guides at the Passport Office will help you plan your tour of outer space. Hike the quarter mile Solar System Trail along the Tandy Hills ridge to find stations for each planet in our system. Don’t get lost in space without a passport guidebook - only $3 at the Solar System Passport Office. Once you finish your hike, solve a riddle and return to the Passport Office for an official Space Traveler stamp and a NASA bookmark.
